Gitsegukla Boy Charged With Sexual Assault

New Hazelton RCMP are investigating a report of sexual assault against a 9-year-old girl in Gitsegukla.

On Wednesday evening, police responded to a report of a little girl who had been injured earlier in the day.

A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody shortly after and has been charged with aggravated sexual assault.  He's been remanded into custody.

The girl was taken to Wrench Memorial Hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

Both the victim and suspect are from Gitsegukla, and police say they are known to each other.

No names are being released.
