CityWest and Northwestel are compensating customers for outages that affected them between june 11th to 16th.

President and CEO of Northwestel , Paul Flaherty said the disruptions were caused by third-party damage to fibre optic cables that carried Northwestel telecommunications signals.

Rob Brown, CEO for Citywest, stated that while the outages were accidental in nature, Citywest is working with its partners to "reduce the risk of a similar event in the future."  Brown says citywest is extending a "10-dollar credit to customers for each cellular phone on their account."  In addition, citywest is delaying a rate increase on certain cellular features that was planned to take effect tomorrow (July 1st).  Citywest has been able to compensate customers since it received some compensation from northwestel for the outages.
