Happy 100 Prince Rupert!

Prince Rupert celebrates its 100th birthday today -- and the mayor says it's a day full of personal significance for his family.

Jack Mussallem says it's a source of personal pride that his was one of the pioneer families of Prince Rupert.
"My family has been here for 100 years, we've been in business here and still are today for all of those 100 years," said Mussallem, adding "I'm honoured as a pioneer family to be the mayor in the 100th anniversary -- and i think of all the people that were in this community in the last 100 years that in some way whether small or large, contributed to this community"

The party got underway this morning with a pancake breakfast, followed by a children's parade downtown, and a free family swim at the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre this afternoon (1-3pm).

The festivities will end tonight at the Lester Centre, with a Community Celebration, beginning at 6:30 and wrapping up with a fireworks show.
